Description:
Dávit Popper is a Hungarian cellist and composer known for his superbly crafted cello works such as "Hungarian Fantasy". He is also known for composing "exercises" for cello students and training many of them. The four cello concertos on this album represent the pinnacle of his creation, and were composed over the course of his entire 50-year compositional career. However, these concertos are rarely performed, as it is only his salon-style works that are popular today. In this album, the Vienna-based cellist Martin Rummel plays solo in the playful No. 1, the dramatic No. 2, and the single-movement No. 3, all accompanied by the orchestra, while No. 4 is performed with piano accompaniment. Enjoy the profound and romantic music said to have been influenced by Brahms. Naxos Japan
