TALLI comprises of three striking one-of-a-kind pieces that serve as contemporary wall hangings, art pieces, and collector rugs, inspired by the traditional Emirati craft of Talli embroidery. Talli, a meticulous hand-weaving technique traditionally used to embellish women’s garments, features complex patterns and vibrant threads that have been a staple in Emirati culture for generations.

The collaborative process began with a deep dive into the aesthetics and techniques of Talli embroidery. KHALID SHAFAR and the Hong Kong-based Tai Ping design team worked closely to reinterpret these traditional motifs into a modern context, focusing on translating the texture, colour, and intricacy of Talli into the medium of high-end rugs. Integrating Tai Ping’s renowned craftsmanship techniques, each rug was handcrafted using high-quality materials chosen to mimic the textures and resilience of the original Talli threads. The result is a collection that not only pays homage to Emirati cultural heritage but also pushes the boundaries of textile art, creating a dynamic fusion of old and new.
