Sousa (1854-1932)
Description:
Operettas were as important as marches in Sousa's 40 years of composing. He himself wrote not only several operettas, but also stylish marches using melodies from popular operas and operettas of the time. The opening "Merry Merry Chorus" is a typical example of such a work. It is an enjoyable piece that begins with Gounod's "Faust," continues through famous pieces such as Weber's "The Magic Bullet," and ends with Verdi's "Anvil Chorus. In My Memory" is the story of one man's memories. The album also includes many other world premiere recordings. The "March of the Pan-American Nations" is a continuation of Nos. 1 through 13 from Vol. 16 (8.559811). Naxos Japan
